Emergency Ambulances

Island EMS operates a fleet of 24 emergency ambulances that are deployed across the province. Island EMS uses a Type II Sprinter Unit, manufactured by Demers Ambulances out of Quebec, Canada

Ambulance Transfer Units

Island EMS operates two Ambulance Transport Units on Prince Edward Island located in Charlottetown and Summerside. Both units are used for routine basic life support transfers.

Mobile Integrated Health Units

Island EMS operated five (5) of these units based in Alberton, Summerside, Charlottetown and Montague. Each provides community paramedicine service in cooperation with Home Care. These units can also be used as rapid response units to support the Emergency System.

Advanced Care Paramedic Response Units (CPRUs)

Island EMS has 3 CPRUs which are staffed by an Advanced Care Community Paramedic and operates under physician supervision. These units are fully outfitted with the equipment needed to perform medical assessments and diagnostics and administer treatments right in the patient’s home. Islanders will also receive ongoing in-home follow-up care from the CPRU team and will be linked to relevant community resources for additional support.
